One of the ways people recognize an artist's work is by giving them awards, whether it's Billboard Music Awards, Grammy Awards, People's Choice Awards, Juno Awards, or MTV Europe Music Awards. But if you notice, they always take a moment to thank their fans, and they always emphasize that they couldn't accomplish anything without them.

And they are right, without a fan base that constantly supports you, it is impossible to achieve all the goals you set for yourself as an artist. In the end, we all need help and fans are the critical part that can’t go unnoticed.

Fans are the ones who are responsible for making a song very successful, they are those people who recommend your music to their friends or family. A successful music career goes hand in hand with a large number of fans and people who support your music.

If you are an indie artist, you probably already know all of this. But often the question is: how do you have a fan base? Or more importantly, how do you turn your followers into fans?

If you want to know the answer, stay and read this article as we will give you the best tips to achieve it!

Before we start, it is important to mention that building a fan base takes time, it is not something that can be achieved quickly. So don't expect quick results, because you won't get them... remember that you are working with people, not robots. People have to connect with your music, with the person you are, and with what you transmit in your songs.

Now, even though on the internet you can find thousands of ways to convert your followers into fans, here we are going to be realistic and give you the most effective ones. The first one is:

1. Get to know your followers, and connect with them

Before looking for new fans, focus on knowing the followers you have on any social network, either knowing what kind of music they like or their age range. Ages will always vary, you can find young people between 15 and 20 years old.

Or even adults between 28 and 35 years old. And this is very good because having an audience of all ages can benefit you in many ways.

When you know your followers in-depth, you can connect with them more naturally and easily. Once you do this, you can be more confident in connecting with new people who may not have heard your music.

Utilize the right strategies, and you can inspire a dedicated, loyal fan base that drives growth for years to come.

2. Interact with the audience at concerts

Concerts are one of the best experiences you can have - we all love concerts! But the best is when artists or bands manage to connect with the audience, whether it's getting them to sing along or laugh out loud.

Almost all of us have been to concerts, so you probably know how important it is to interact with the audience, even more so if you are a new artist that people don't know.

When doing a concert, the first thing you must do is to make the audience laugh, talk to them, or just keep them interested. This way you'll keep them attentive to your music, and if they like your personality, you'll create a connection with them.

And don't be discouraged if there are not many people in the audience at a concert, even if there are only 20 people, be able to give them one of the best moments of their lives! This way they will love your personality and your music.

3. Have performances at private events, they are more important than you think

Maybe you know musicians who are exclusively dedicated to private parties or events, and one of the reasons may be: they get paid well.

But the most important thing is that you can also get to interact with future fans. At private events, you can have more direct contact with future fans, as there are usually fewer people and everything is quieter.

Once you have a small number of fans, treat them well

Your fans are going to be the people who will give you all the success, and happiness in your musical career. For this reason, they deserve to be treated very well.

You can even make covers of songs that your fans like. Many artists have done this and they become even more viral, so take it into account!

Empower yourself to create meaningful relationships with your followers that last.

4. Create content constantly on social networks

Social media has become the most effective way to interact with fans. Most artists use social media to announce new songs, albums, concerts, or important news. Do the same, don't get left behind! You can do it on any social network you want, but we recommend you do it on Instagram.

There you can interact with millions of people and have new followers constantly! Although you can also use Facebook, Twitter, or Tiktok.

5. Join and collaborate with other indie artists

To get more fans you can join concerts of other artists or bands. You can propose the idea to make a song together, or several! With this… you will not only get more support from the public, but you will also meet wonderful artists and make friends in the music industry. Remember that in music everything is based on making art with other people because it is much more fun than doing it alone.

Once you accomplish all these steps, you will be able to have a fan base that will support you unconditionally and help you achieve all your goals! It doesn't matter if they are few, all artists have started their musical careers as “little stars” until they achieve success.

You just have to be consistent and a good person. If you have a lot of people who admire and respect you, keep that positive vision they have of you. Don't forget that!
