That percentage is covering all sub genres and is very impressive considering the competition from the major record labels and their artists. They tend to have a special hustle about themselves considering the resources provided of as an independent artist on no major record labels.

Reaping the benefits of all their hard work and dedication to staying true to their individuality as a performer and artist with their talents.  Here are 10 noteworthy Indie artists coming across playlists.

Lil Yachty

This Georgia based indie rapper, singer, writer, and producer is signed to Quality Control Records. His most recent project Let’s Start Here is a testament to his growth from his beginning days on Soundcloud. Amplifying his many skills that are influenced by Cold Play, Drake, Chief Keef, and Lil Wayne.  This shift in his artistry is something that many artists strive to achieve in their career.

Ice Spice

The latest underground drill rapper from the Bronx is steady building her case for her spot on the New York scene. Influenced by Chef G , Pop Smoke, her community and the Brooklyn drill scene, she’s been able to release a string of singles that keep her audience waiting for her next drop. With her latest EP Like..?  It is not a surprise that she received an co sign from her fellow rap peers Toosie and Ce Lo Caine.

Vedo

Signed to indie label New Wav Music Group, this Cali R&B indie received nods from heavy weights like Usher and Tank.  His sound is influenced by Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild , Chris Brown, and Usher. The album Mood Swings was just release and it does not disappoint for the those looking to add more R&B into the mix.

Aint Afraid

Twin indie artists from Maryland that are own their own label that is dedicated to empowering inspiring those all over the world. Their rapping, singing, and spoken word influenced by Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, and Beyonce. It’s not a surprise why these young sisters are able to make the impression that they have so far among the underground scenes.

Joey Bada$$

Co-founder of the label Pro Era, this Brooklyn indie artist is providing the style that well describes a well respected and perfected sound.  Well influenced by Black Thought, Nas, 2Pac, MF DOOM, J Dilla, Andre 3000, Jay-Z, 90s reggae and the Notorious B.I.G.. After a bit of a hiatus he returned with sharpened skills on his last album dripped with 90s vibe, 2000, before the year 2022 was done.

Ken The Man

Texas’s very own indie rapper is heavy in making waves in the rap scene. Hard hitting lyrics with hooks to match keeps the features rolling like the increase of fans and admirers. Her lyrical influences range from 2pac, Nicki Minaj, and Eminem.  From songs like WTF, and recently Not My N*gga as her latest single is pushing her wave once again from the undergrounds of Houston while signed to Asylum Worldwide LLC.

FoggieRaw

A Maryland indie artist with unique delivery and style is grabbing hearts and the attention of the masses. Signed to indie label Diff Sound, his goal of doing it his way is being heard and respected. Influenced by Outkast, Pimp C and MF Doom brings a vibe on its own. His latest single Psalm 62 with is a just an example of how he’s captivating his fans and growing his base.

Lorine Chia

R&B indie artist from California on her own label Sweet Noise is an indie artist that has proven her longevity in the underground streets of the West Coast. From working with Wiz Khalifa, The Game, and Chuck English her unique tone and style gained recognition with her peers. Influenced by Kanye West, Cold Play, John Legend, and The Cool Kids. Her last release Drills and Blues is a window to the growth she has received over the years.

Kenyon Dixon

On his own record label, Kenny Got Soul, this California indie artist is cementing his name in conversations on the R&B tip from the West Coast. Influenced by the likes of Michael Jackson, Eric Dawkins, and Destiny’s Child, his R&B roots are heavy. His very soulful and recent album Closer impressed many to become Grammy nominated recently.

Queen Key

Chicago based and signed to her own label Queen Key LLC, this indie artist been establishing her stay in the underground scene for some time.  Her sound influenced by 2pac, Polo G, and G Herbo she has no problem with her style to embrace her feministic ways while bucking the gender norms that many women in hip hop face. With her latest release Diamonds in the Rough It’s no surprise that she’s made such a presence in Chicago.
